  • tensioner question

put my motor together with a timing belt wich was too tight and was making a wining sound. change it and the sound went away but now there is this rattling noise comin from the timing belt area and my timng belt looks loose.

i really just want to know how a tensioner pully can go bad and or if this sounds like i need a new one

    1) we cant hear your car.

    2) timing belt deflection from the factory (typically) is about a 1/4 inch, what this means is you can take the belt at its longest area (furthest from 2 pulleys/rollers) and be able to turn the belt with 2 fingers 90 degress. if more, then yes its too loose.

    3) if its making a noise now, its probably from the recently replaced timing belt. and, stop running the car you can do some serious damage. take it apart and check it out and see whats wrong.
