I'd say the first 89 JDM Integra motor that introduced VTEC to the world and started the revolution of altering cam profiles(and degrees and lift for other makes). Of course we didn't see it until 1990 in the NSX.

But all those factors aside I'd say the B18B. They're a dime a dozen and cheap. They're perfect for boost with their narrow cam lobes and narrow intake runners, quick cylinder filling for low end torque, which the LS has plenty of, then the turbocharger to stuff the air in when the cam starts to become inefficient.

      K Series All Day

      Lighter than a B Series

      Chain Driven (no belt)

      Coil-On Ignition (do distributor)

      Cast Iron Sleeved Cylinders

VTEC/VTC allow for both intake and exhaust valves to operate at different cam profiles at wide open throttle.

No machining needed when building hybrid motors, so you can swap heads to blocks like legos.

        1.) F20C & F22C (S2000)
        2.) B16B (CTR)
        3.) C32B (NSX)
        4.) K20A (Type R)
        5.) H22A7 (Euro R)

& many many more, but this is my Opinion on top 5

My Top 5 was picked by Best Designed Honda Engines in my Opinion.

K20A Type R hands down. Might be a little biased.
