your "dual vtec" is actually a 3 stage vtec.
1st stage-your running one intake valve per cylinder until around 3k rpm
2nd stage-3k to around 6k your running 2 intake valves per cylinder
3rd stage-you lock both intake valves onto the higher cam lobe.

in the 1st stage your actually running in lean burn which will give you really high fuel mileage.
