  • rebuild problem! please help

hey I put a d15b8 block with a d16y7 head and intake into my 98 dx. everything runs and runs good but im dumping white smoke...coolant obviously burning up. I did the head gasket myself and have great compression so I know its not a blown head gasket or cracked cylinder. I have checked all the hoses to verify them in the right places and I don't see how I could have screwed it up....everything pretty much points to where it goes with the preformed hoses. just hoping someone else has run into this and has an answer or could point me in the right direction!.....203-910-5364 greg thanks in advance for replies

White smoke means coolant is going into your combustion chamber. Theres only 2 ways coolant can enter your combustion chamber and its either through the head gasket or a cylinder wall. You could have a warped head or your head might not have been torqued down correctly. Your hoses will have nothing to do with smoke coming out the tail pipe. Did you re-use your old head bolts? Did you use a new head gasket? Did you do a compression test to actually verify that you have good compression in all cylinders?

I used new head gasket, head bolts, and tightened down in proper sequence and in the 4 step torque procedure.....my compression test showed #1-110 #2-115 #3-110 #4-110 so I'm stuck next step is taking manifold off and replacing throttle body gasket and intake gasket and getting head decked....I checked it with feeler gauges and it did t show warp but maybe I missed it...idk thanks for reply man any other input is greatly appreciated too.

sounds like a headgasket problem to me. head was probably slightly warped. buy another head or get yours shaved. no gasket beside the head gasket is going to fix this porblem so checking throttlebody and intake manny gaskets is just a waist of time.

did you identify which cyl is burning? if its dumping water in the cylinder the plug will look clean from the steam cleaning in the cyl. if you are confident the that block and head as true i guess its possible that the cooling jacket that goes from the head to intake could be leaking coolant into the num 4 cyl. never seen it happen but in theory it cold happen

its gotta be your headgasket because your compression should be around 150-175 if your running stock pistons..
