Exactly. I always here people rant & rave about GM syncromesh, the only reason it doesn't cause your tranny to grind when it normally would, is beacuse GM syncromesh is real thick, which slows the revolutions of the tranny's internals, so obviously it doesnt lube all that well.

Honda Fluid is for lubrication, not to slow gears down for proper gear engagment, that's what syncro's are for.

Properly built tranny's dont grind, no matter what fuild is in it. Ask me or Nick about that.

But to answer the first question: Yes, Honda's OLD tranny fluid(Red Cap) was conventinal 5w-30 oil, & There NEW Fluid(White Cap) is Synthetic 5w-30 with a couple extra additives.

Honda NEW (White Cap/Green Label) MTF FTW

                                well said,

GM syncromesh is the truth for old worn tranny's......but do not use it in a fresh tranny the (friction modified fluid) actually creates additonal friction which helps worn syncro's to engage. but for a tranny with fresh syncro's you don't want to create friction.... u want to reduce it

                                In short

                                Fresh Tranny - Honda MTF
Tired Tranny - GM sycromesh (friction modified)

PS I The OLD Honda MTF was actually the same as their motor oil :(.......they changed that about 2 years ago
